My last Blog I talked a little about keeping music in my life. Well as long as I can remember it has always been there. Growing up I would wake up with country music coming from the radio as my mother would be getting my father's breakfast together. My dad would be into blue grass music and then I had my sister's music which was soft rock or pop. One of my fondest memories was a little am radio that looked like a stereo system I remember tuning it in and listening to it until the battery ( 9 volt) died. Music to me has unlimited power to motivate a person. With the right song you can walk forever, love harder, feel stronger. I can live on music :-) I don't need to do anything else but listen and the world just fades away into wishes and dreams so real one might not want to leave it. I know I cannot stay there forever, but it sure does help my electric bill on those days I do that lol. No TV just a mp3 player.
While in school we always had music in art class. It helped pass the time away no matter what we were doing. I took some vocational classes in middle school and remember having music being played while in those classes as well. Music one of the Muses :-) it is used in so many things , movies, commercials, even when we pass on we pick what we want played at our funerals. As I was growing up I went to church and of course music was there. at one point I lead the congregation in song. Not only there but at home we sang as well. and in my family if you didn't sing you played some sort of instrument, mainly the guitar. Mostly my Uncle and cousins played and we sang. When I was around 15 my dad showed me the key of D on the guitar and I have basically stayed with that lol. I play a little and hope to play more as time goes by. I might make that a resolution for next year lol.
After I graduated from school I kept my love for music with me. I grew up when records were big and yes even 8 tracks ! I used to do all kinds of work from giving out samples of new cherry coke when it first came out to working at the Berkshire museum. But my favorite job was in radio. I used ot work for WBRK in Pittsfield Ma. I was only running the Larry King show and monitoring the FM (WRCZ) side, but it was fun and I got to work on my skills. After a while I got a chance to have my own show on WTBR a radio station in the local high school ( Taconic High). It was great I remember doing a morning show with a guy named Mike. We had a good time and I thought a good show.
So how is music still in my life? Well beside the guitar and my mp3 player I still have a radio show thru my own station. Decades Radio, right now it is off the air but as I write this I am inspired to bring it back ! So who knows you might here me out there again soon talking about music or the latest events! But no matter what I love the passion music can bring into a person's life and the dreams it can create. Plus the memories it helps store in your brain, you know the ones which hit you all of the sudden when you hear that song you have not heard in ages :-) so turn on your radio and relax and enjoy :-)
I love this! It is so true about music. Music plays the strings of our emotions and imagination. I think my favorite place to play music is in the car. There is something about being on the road while music plays that totally transcends me into another dimension. On my past road trips I would live within my fantasies the whole car trip. It's so cool how deep you can get with your thoughts and pondering.
